Eduardo Hernández Saucedo, known professionally as Ed Maverick, was born on January 19, 2001, in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico. Maverick began his musical journey by teaching himself guitar at age 14, inspired by artists like Jake Bugg and Juan Cirerol. He started by performing at local events and uploading song covers to YouTube. His early compositions, characterized by a lo-fi, norteño-inflected style, gained traction on SoundCloud. In 2018, at the age of 17, his songs “Acurrucar” and “Fuentes de Ortiz” attracted the attention of Universal Music Mexico, leading to a record deal.
In 2018, Maverick released his debut mixtape, “Mix Pa Llorar En Tu Cuarto,” which included “Fuentes de Ortiz.” This song became a commercial success, later certified diamond by AMPROFON. Following his signing with Universal Music Mexico in March 2019, the album was reissued and reached number two on the Mexican albums chart. He rapidly became a viral artist on Spotify and performed at notable venues like the National Auditorium’s “Lunario” and the Teatro Metropolitán, setting records for selling out dates quickly. His debut album also received a gold record from AMPROFON in 2019. In the same year, he released his second studio album, “Transiciones,” and performed at the Viva! Pomona music festival.
Maverick’s career progression continued with his third studio album, “Eduardo,” released in 2021. This album reflected personal challenges, and it was ranked 26th on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 35 best Spanish-language albums of 2021. In 2021, he collaborated with C. Tangana on “Párteme la cara” from the album “El Madrileño.” This collaboration reached number three on the Spanish singles chart and earned him a Latin Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album. In 2022, he received the Paco Martín Award for “Breakthrough Artist of Global Music” and performed at the Coachella music festival. He has accumulated over 1.1 million certified album-equivalent units globally as of March 2025, showcasing his impact on the music industry.
