Elephant Gym is a renowned jazz fusion band hailing from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, formed in February 2012. The trio consists of siblings KT Chang on bass and lead vocals, Tell Chang on guitar, and drummer Chia-Chin Tu. Their unique sound is characterized by bass-driven melodies and agile rhythms, which have captivated audiences both locally and internationally. The band quickly gained recognition with their hand-produced EP and the single “Ordinary Route,” showcasing their innovative approach to music.
In 2013, Elephant Gym released their first EP, “Balance,” featuring the standout track “Ocean in the Night,” produced in collaboration with Hom Shenhao of Touming Magazine. Their debut album, “Angle,” launched in June 2014, further solidified their presence in the music scene, featuring collaborations with artists like Panai Kusui and Enno Cheng. Despite a hiatus due to Taiwanese military service, the band maintained their connection with fans through a performance and documentary titled “See You Then.”
After their hiatus, Elephant Gym returned to the music scene with renewed vigor, releasing their second EP, “Work,” in October 2016. Their participation in the Summer Sonic Festival and performances alongside American math rock band The Fall of Troy showcased their growing international appeal. The release of their second full-length album, “Underwater,” in November 2018 marked a significant milestone, followed by a world tour that included performances at SXSW and the ArcTanGent Festival.
Continuing to evolve, Elephant Gym released the single “Gaze at Blue” in 2019 and has announced their latest studio album, “World,” set to debut in late 2023. With their dynamic performances and innovative sound, Elephant Gym remains a prominent force in the jazz fusion genre, consistently pushing the boundaries of their artistry.
