EXID, a prominent South Korean girl group, has transitioned from initial challenges to global recognition, influencing music trends and securing partnerships across Asia. After achieving early chart success with their debut single ‘Whoz That Girl,’ which sold 840,000 digital copies and peaked at number 36 on the Gaon Singles Chart in February 2012, EXID established themselves as a dynamic force in K-pop. The South Korean girl group, known for their powerful performances and distinct sound, released their first EP, ‘Hippity Hop,’ in August 2012, reaching number 13 on the Gaon Albums Chart. This early recognition culminated in them receiving the prestigious Rookie Award at the 20th Korea Culture & Entertainment Awards in December 2012.
Further showcasing their versatility, members Hani and Solji formed the subunit Dasoni, releasing their debut single ‘Goodbye’ in February 2013. EXID experienced a pivotal moment in October 2014 when a fan-recorded video of member Hani performing the choreography for their single ‘Up & Down’ went viral, propelling the song to the top of the Gaon Chart. This unexpected surge in popularity led to their first music show win on M Countdown in January 2015. They followed this breakthrough with their second EP, ‘Ah Yeah,’ released in April 2015, and made their first American performance at the Korean Music Festival in Los Angeles the following month.
In September 2022, EXID reunited for their tenth anniversary, releasing the three-track single album ‘X’ and embarking on the ‘EXID 2022 Japan-Final-Live Tour.’ Their most recent appearance was a reunion performance on Immortal Songs 2 in March 2025.
