Fire From the Gods

Fire From the Gods carved out a lane few bands occupy, fusing rap cadences with the weight of metal and hardcore in a way that gave voice to listeners hungry for both groove and grievance. The band took shape in Austin, Texas in 2007, when guitarists Drew Walker and Tony Esparza, bassist Bonner Baker, keyboardist Jebediah Roper, drummer Chad Huff, and vocalist Michael Vincent came together after a local battle of the bands. Early recordings like the ‘Sweet Lasting Revenge’ EP hinted at the blend of hip-hop, metal, and hardcore that would define their sound.

A decade of lineup evolution sharpened their identity. Eric July fronted the ‘Politically Incorrect’ EP in 2013 before A.J. Channer joined in 2014, bringing a Bronx-bred urgency to the microphone. Their debut full-length, ‘Narrative’, arrived on August 26, 2016 via Rise Records, produced by David Bendeth and featuring the hit singles ‘Excuse Me’ and ‘End Transmission’. The record tackled racism and abuse of power head-on, establishing the band’s reputation for music with conviction. ‘American Sun’ followed in 2019 on Eleven Seven, deepening that fusion of melody and message.

Now signed to Better Noise, the current lineup of lead vocalist Myke Terry, lead guitarist Drew Walker, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Jameson Teat, bassist Bonner Baker, and drummer Richard Wicander released ‘Soul Revolution’ in 2022, their third full-length album. Across three albums and nearly two decades, Fire From the Gods have stayed committed to music as both catharsis and commentary, earning their place among the most distinctive voices in modern American rap metal.
