Francesca Battistelli

Francesca Battistelli was born on May 18, 1985, in New York City, into a family deeply involved in musical theater. Her early exposure to the arts, including music, dance, and theater, laid the foundation for her future career. At age six, after seeing ‘The Secret Garden’ on Broadway, she developed a desire to perform. By 15, Francesca became part of Bella, an all-girl mainstream pop group in Orlando, Florida, gaining experience in singing and dancing. After the group disbanded, she began writing her own songs and playing the guitar, marking a shift towards her solo career in Christian music. In 2004, she independently released her debut album, ‘Just a Breath’.

Her career progressed significantly when she signed with Fervent Records. In early 2008, she released the ‘I’m Letting Go EP’ on iTunes, followed by her major label debut album, ‘My Paper Heart,’ on July 22, 2008. The album, produced by Ian Eskelin, featured her first radio single, ‘I’m Letting Go,’ which charted on national Christian CHR stations. Her song ‘Free to Be Me’ earned her a Grammy Award nomination in 2009 for Best Gospel Performance. In 2016, she won her first Grammy Award at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for ‘Holy Spirit’ from her album ‘If We’re Honest’.

Battistelli has consistently achieved success in the Christian music industry, with multiple No. 1 radio singles and three consecutive studio projects reaching the top of Billboard’s Christian Albums chart. Her music has been featured in various films and television shows, including ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8,’ ‘The Biggest Loser,’ and ‘Soul Surfer.’ Beyond music, Francesca has also ventured into acting, appearing in the Christian sports drama ‘Woodlawn’ in 2015 and ‘God’s Not Dead: We the People’ in 2021. She continues to record and tour, maintaining her presence as a leading voice in contemporary Christian music.
