About

Marlon Craft was born on February 27, 1993, in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. He grew up in Manhattan Plaza, a residential complex in Hell’s Kitchen, where his father worked as a jazz drummer and his mother was a producer for an Off-Broadway theater company. He attended The Beacon School and later American University in Washington, D.C., where he designed his own interdisciplinary major, Urban Education and Social Justice. After completing his education, Craft returned to Manhattan, where he began uploading freestyle videos to YouTube, marking the initial steps in his music career. His early work showcased a raw talent for lyrical composition.

Craft’s career began with the release of his mixtape, “Pieces,” in March 2015, which included a freestyle over Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones.” This was followed by two EPs in 2016, “So, What Are You Doing?” and “he looked like nothing,” the latter featuring the single “Workin’.” In 2017, he released his second mixtape, “The Tunnel’s End,” which briefly reached number 2 on the iTunes Hip-Hop chart. He gained further recognition for his freestyles, including one referencing every NBA team and another on Statik Selektah’s Shade 45 radio show. In 2018, Craft toured with Dizzy Wright and released a series of EPs under the title “A Dollar in Quarters” (25c, 50c, and 75c).

In 2018, Craft partnered with Same Plate Entertainment, a joint venture with Sony Music, releasing singles like “NY Baby” featuring Bodega Bamz. His debut studio album, “Funhouse Mirror,” released in June 2019, topped iTunes’ Top Hip-Hop Albums chart and received acclaim from notable artists and activists. In 2019, he co-founded the art collective and lifestyle brand OUR.S, which organized “WORKWEEK,” a series of events supporting non-profit organizations. After leaving Sony Music in 2020, Craft transitioned to an independent model, launching “The Center,” a fan-funded subscription community. His second album, “How We Intended,” was released in February 2021, and he appeared on MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber” to discuss his track “State of the Union.”
