Known for their distinctive acoustic sound and chart-topping hits like ‘Accidently Kelly Street’ and ‘Ordinary Angels,’ Australian folk-pop group Frente first captivated audiences with their self-funded debut extended play, ‘Whirled,’ released in August 1991. The EP garnered early recognition for the track ‘Labour of Love,’ voted into Triple J’s Hottest 100 for 1991 at No. 69. This initial success led to a partnership with Mushroom Records White Label in 1992.
The bands debut album, ‘Marvin the Album,’ released in November 1992, peaked at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart and also secured platinum status. Frentes breakout year was recognized at the 1993 ARIA Music Awards, where they received ‘Breakthrough Artist Album’ for ‘Marvin the Album’ and ‘Breakthrough Artist Single’ for ‘Ordinary Angels.’ Expanding their international reach, Frente embarked on a promotional tour across Europe and the United States in 1994 for ‘Marvin the Album,’ distributed through Mammoth Records. During this period, their acoustic cover of New Order’s ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’ became a significant global hit, charting in the UK and climbing to No.
35 on the ARIA Albums Chart in Australia. After extensive touring, Frente concluded their initial run in 1997. Despite their hiatus, Frente has periodically reunited for special performances and anniversary events. The group notably reformed for a series of acoustic shows in New York and Los Angeles in late 2004.
Kicking off 2024, Frente returned to the stage at the reopened Punters Club, showcasing their enduring appeal and acclaimed catalog.
