Weathers

Weathers is an American alternative rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of lead vocalist Cameron Boyer, guitarist Cameron Olsen, bassist Brennen Bates, and drummer Christian Champion. Their musical style is characterized by driving and upbeat anthems, complemented by introspective lyrics that delve into themes of coming-of-age and mental health. The band draws inspiration from the counterculture movements of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Weathers has toured extensively, supporting various alternative acts, including Saint Motel, Nothing but Thieves, Dreamers, K.Flay, Palaye Royale, One Ok Rock, Badflower, Echosmith, Meg Myers, and The Maine.

The genesis of Weathers can be traced back to 2011 when Cameron Boyer initially formed a band called One Youth, which later transitioned to Above Seclusion and released two albums. Brennen Bates joined the band after responding to Boyer’s audition post on Facebook. Cameron Olsen became involved with Boyer during the 2012 Manhattan Beach Battle of the Bands, where Olsen was performing with his band, Colorblind. Former member Cole Carson joined as the band’s drummer in 2013, with a pre-existing musical connection through their fathers’ high school band. On July 9, 2014, Above Seclusion was rebranded as Signal City, releasing their debut track “Fortune” and four singles before officially forming as Weathers in October 2015. The band’s influences span from modern acts like The Killers and My Chemical Romance to 80s and 90s groups such as Depeche Mode and The Cure.

Weathers released their debut singles “I Don’t Wanna Know” and “Happy Pills” in 2015. “Happy Pills” became the most added song on alternative radio on its impact date, achieving significant success for a new artist in the 2010s, peaking at No. 21 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. In 2018, the band released their album “Kids In The Night” in two separate EPs. This period saw a focus on lyrical themes of self-acceptance and resilience. Subsequent years brought a series of non-album singles, including “Problems” (2018), “Dirty Money,” “Lonely Vampire,” and “Always Tired” (2019). In 2020, they released “Feel Good” and a cover of Britney Spears’ “Lucky,” along with the web exclusive EP “Our Little Secret.” Their second web exclusive EP, “Our Other Little Secret,” and their second album, “Pillows & Therapy,” followed in 2021. In February 2022, Weathers released “Alone Again” featuring Robert DeLong, part of their “My Friends Have Better Friends” EP, shortly before drummer Cole Carson’s departure. Their album “Are We Having Fun?” released in May 2023, produced by Jason Suwito, includes the single “All Caps” featuring John the Ghost, which remains their highest-charting song to date.
