About

Gary Jules Aguirre Jr. was born on March 19, 1969, in Fresno, California. His family lineage includes origins from Oklahoma, Ireland, France, Mexico, and Spain. He attended The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, California, in his early years. Jules began his professional music career in 1996, securing his first major label deal with A&M Records. He has since been actively involved in writing, recording, producing, and performing music.

Jules is widely recognized for his acoustic cover of the Tears for Fears song “Mad World,” which he recorded with his friend Michael Andrews for the 2001 film *Donnie Darko*. This rendition gained significant popularity, becoming the UK Christmas number-one single in 2003. The song has been featured in various television programs, including *General Hospital*, *Without a Trace*, *The O.C.*, *Smallville*, *Jericho*, *CSI: Crime Scene Investigation*, *House*, and *Riverdale*. It was also used in trailers for projects such as the Xbox 360 *Gears of War* in 2006 and the 2010 film *The Crazies*.

Throughout his career, Jules has released several albums, including “Greetings from the Side” (1998), “Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets” (2001), “Gary Jules” (2006), and “Bird” (2008). His song “Something Else” was featured in the NBC show *Scrubs* in 2006, and “Greetings from the Side” was used in the films *Digging to China* (1997) and *Fireflies in the Garden* (2008). He has collaborated with artists such as Jim Bianco and Mylène Farmer, performing “Mad World” and “Les mots” live with Farmer during her Timeless 2013 tour.
