About

Gabriel Alberto Azucena, known by his stage name Gawvi, was born on September 23, 1988, in The Bronx, New York, to a father from El Salvador and a mother from the Dominican Republic. He was raised in Miami, Florida. Gawvi began his music production career in 2008, quickly gaining recognition for his work with prominent Christian hip-hop artists like Lecrae and Trip Lee. His production work led to him signing a recording contract with Reach Records as both an artist and an in-house record producer. His debut extended play, ‘Lost in Hue,’ released in July 2016, achieved commercial success, reaching No. 1 on iTunes’ top-selling dance albums chart and charting on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums and Top Christian Album charts.

Throughout his career, Gawvi has consistently demonstrated his ability to blend various genres into a distinctive style. In 2017, he released his debut studio album, ‘We Belong,’ which garnered acclaim within the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) community. He received two GMA Dove Awards: one for his production work on Lecrae’s album ‘Anomaly’ in 2015, and another for his production on Trip Lee’s album ‘The Waiting Room’ in 2017. His second album, ‘Panorama,’ released in October 2018, featured the song “Fight for Me” with Lecrae, which won Rap/Hip Hop Song of the Year at the 50th GMA Dove Awards. His third album, ‘Heathen’ (2020), was nominated for Rap/Hip Hop Album of the Year at the 51st GMA Dove Awards, further solidifying his presence in the industry. In March 2021, he released ‘Noche Juvenil,’ an album composed entirely of Spanish-language songs, showcasing his versatility.

In early 2022, Gawvi’s professional relationship with Reach Records ended following allegations. Despite this, he announced his fifth album, ‘ATMOSTFEAR,’ which was released on July 2, 2024, under the Alienz Alive label. This album continued to explore a range of styles including hip-hop, dance, and reggaeton. Gawvi’s diverse musical output and production achievements have made him a notable figure in Christian and electronic music.
