About

Glen Matlock was born on August 27, 1956, in London, England. He attended Saint Martin’s School of Art until 1974. Matlock gained prominence as the original bass guitarist for the Sex Pistols, a band he co-founded after being introduced to Steve Jones and Paul Cook while working at Malcolm McLaren’s boutique, Sex. He was instrumental in the songwriting process for the band’s debut album, “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols,” contributing to 10 of the 12 songs. Despite leaving the band in February 1977, his foundational work on tracks like “Anarchy in the U.K.” remains a significant part of the band’s legacy.

Following his departure from the Sex Pistols, Matlock formed Rich Kids, a new wave power pop band, in 1977. This band achieved a UK No. 24 hit with their single “Rich Kids” in 1978 and released the album “Ghosts of Princes in Towers.” He also performed with Sid Vicious in the short-lived Vicious White Kids. Matlock’s career continued with collaborations and projects including playing bass on Iggy Pop’s album “Soldier” (1980) and The Damned’s “Not of This Earth” (1995). Throughout the years, he participated in several Sex Pistols reunion tours, including the Filthy Lucre Tour in 1996 and subsequent tours in 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2008. He has also been a member of bands like The Philistines, Dead Men Walking, and The International Swingers.

More recently, Matlock reformed Rich Kids for a benefit concert in 2010 and joined a reformed Faces, performing at the Vintage at Goodwood festival in the same year. In 2011, he filled in for Mani, playing bass for Primal Scream at the Japan Tsunami appeal concert. He made his acting debut in the 2012 British drama film “The Paddy Lincoln Gang.” From 2013 to 2014, he toured with Sylvain Sylvain on the Sex Dolls Tour. In 2022 and 2023, Matlock joined Blondie for their UK and US tours, filling in for an injured bassist. He released his latest solo album, “Consequences Coming,” in April 2023, reflecting his observations on contemporary political events.
