Glenn Danzig

Glenn Danzig, a seminal figure in rock music, first founded Misfits in the mid-1970s, establishing a foundational presence in the horror punk genre. Through his own labels, initially Blank and later Plan 9, Danzig released the band’s first single ‘Cough/Cool’ in 1977, cultivating a significant cult following through releases inspired by B-grade horror films. Following Misfits’ disbandment in October 1983, Danzig formed Samhain the same year, exploring a darker, more experimental sound blending horror punk with gothic and death rock elements. A pivotal moment occurred in 1986 when producer Rick Rubin discovered Samhain, leading to a major label deal and the band’s rebranding to Danzig, shifting towards a blues-based heavy metal sound.

Danzig launched the Blackest of the Black tour in 2003, a festival showcasing diverse heavy metal acts. He released Black Aria II in 2006, produced Gorgeous Frankenstein’s debut album in 2007, and released The Lost Tracks of Danzig in July 2007. In 2008, he recorded ‘Father’s Grave’ with Melissa Auf der Maur, and released Deth Red Sabaoth in 2010. In 2011, Danzig performed ‘Danzig Legacy’ reunion shows and joined Metallica for their 30-year anniversary concerts.

A highly anticipated event took place in 2016 when the Misfits’ original lineup reunited for Riot Fest. He released the album Black Laden Crown in 2017. Danzig made his directorial debut with the horror anthology film Verotika in 2019, followed by directing Death Rider in the House of Vampires in 2021, demonstrating his versatility as a filmmaker alongside his extensive musical career.
