Gossip is an influential American indie rock band that originated in Searcy, Arkansas, in 1999. The band was formed by the dynamic trio of vocalist Beth Ditto, guitarist Nathan “Brace Paine” Howdeshell, and drummer Kathy Mendonça. Their early years were marked by a series of successful releases, including their debut EP “The Gossip” and the studio album “That’s Not What I Heard”. Their unique sound, blending post-punk revival and dance-rock, quickly garnered attention, setting the stage for their breakthrough.
In 2006, Gossip achieved mainstream success with their album “Standing in the Way of Control”, which earned Gold Record Status in the UK. This album showcased Ditto’s powerful vocals and the band’s energetic style, leading to memorable performances, including their appearance on BBC1’s “Friday Night With Jonathan Ross”. The band’s commitment to LGBT advocacy was highlighted during their participation in the True Colors Tour 2007, further solidifying their status as cultural icons.
The band’s evolution continued with the release of “Music for Men” in 2009, featuring the hit single “Heavy Cross”, which became a chart-topping success in Germany. Their fifth album, “A Joyful Noise”, released in 2012, marked a shift towards a poppier sound, demonstrating their versatility and ability to adapt to changing musical landscapes.
After a brief hiatus, Gossip reunited in 2019 for a world tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of “Music for Men”. Their latest album, “Real Power”, released in 2024, showcases their enduring creativity and commitment to their craft, proving that Gossip remains a vital force in the music industry.
