Ian Munsick, born on May 6, 1993, in Sheridan, Wyoming, grew up surrounded by ranching and music. His family, with generations of cowboys, ranchers, and musicians, influenced his early career. At age 10, he began performing with his father and older brothers in The Munsick Boys, a group that later won “Group of the Year” at the 2017 Academy of Western Artists awards. Munsick pursued higher education, graduating from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, with a degree in Songwriting and Music Business. This foundation in both practical performance and academic understanding of the music industry prepared him for his solo career.
After initially working as a bassist and background vocalist in Nashville, Munsick released his self-titled EP in 2017. His career progressed with a solo record deal with Warner Music Nashville, leading to the release of his debut single “Long Haul” in April 2021 and his first studio album, “Coyote Cry,” in February 2021. He made his debut at the Grand Ole Opry in October 2021, marking a significant milestone in his live performance career. His music, characterized by a wide vocal range and a progressive bluegrass style, resonated with audiences, leading to accumulating almost 1 billion global streams over three years.
Munsick’s second studio album, “White Buffalo,” released in April 2023, continued to explore themes of the American West. The album featured the duet “Long Live Cowgirls” with Cody Johnson, which achieved RIAA Gold-certification. In 2023, he also released the documentary film “White Buffalo: Voices of the West,” expanding on the cultural narratives presented in his album. This film earned critical acclaim, receiving awards at the Angeles Film Festival and C47 Film Festival, and was an official selection at several other film festivals. Munsick has consistently toured, headlining multiple tours and performing alongside notable country artists like Morgan Wallen, Cody Johnson, and Lainey Wilson.
