Jillian Dowding, known professionally as JJ Wilde, was born on July 3, 1992, in Kitchener, Ontario. A graduate of Sheridan College, she launched her music career with her debut EP, “Wilde Eyes, Steady Hands”, in 2019. Her impactful single “The Rush” achieved a significant milestone in May 2020 by simultaneously reaching the number one position on Canada’s modern rock, active rock, and mainstream rock charts. This accomplishment was notable as only eleven songs had achieved this feat previously.
Wilde continued to build on her success with the release of her debut album, “Ruthless”, in 2020. This album garnered critical acclaim, leading to her winning the Rock Album of the Year award at the 2021 Juno Awards. Her win marked a historic moment, as she became the first woman in 25 years, since Alanis Morissette in 1996, to receive this particular award. She further expanded her discography with the EP “Wilde” in 2021 and the album “Vices” in 2024, demonstrating consistent artistic output and evolution.
Throughout her career, JJ Wilde has engaged in various projects and collaborations that highlight her standing in the music industry. In late 2020, she was featured by Collective Arts Brewing through their Audio/Visual Lager series, alongside other independent artists like SonReal, The OBGMs, and Northcote, with special band-themed cans designed to promote their music. She has also shared stages with prominent acts such as Incubus, Jimmy Eat World, Pearl Jam, The Glorious Sons, Scorpions, and Kiss.
