Joan is an American pop duo comprising Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford, originating from Little Rock, Arkansas. The duo officially formed in 2017, quickly gaining recognition for their distinct blend of pop ballads and energetic dance music. Their consistent release of hook-filled tracks has cultivated a dedicated audience. Their approach to music production involves self-designing their recording studio in Little Rock, Arkansas, where they write, self-produce, and record their material, demonstrating a hands-on and independent work style.

Throughout their career, Joan has steadily progressed, marked by several significant releases and collaborations. They released their debut EP, “portra,” in 2018, followed by “cloudy” in 2020. In 2021, they expanded their discography with two EPs, “hi” and “bye,” showcasing a continuous output of new music. A key turning point was the release of their debut album, “superglue,” in April 2023, under Photo Finish Records. This was followed by their second studio album, “this won’t last forever,” released in September 2025. The duo has also engaged in collaborations with various artists, including McKenna Grace, J-pop sensation NOA, and K-pop group EPEX, which has contributed to refining their songwriting and expanding their reach. They toured with Bloc Party in 2025 as the opening act during the band’s US tour, further broadening their exposure to new audiences.

Joan’s success is also evident in their digital presence, with their music accumulating tens of millions of streams. This global fanbase underscores their ability to connect with listeners through their sound.
