Kevin Olusola

Kevin Olusola is a multi-talented musician and beatboxer, widely recognized for his role in the GRAMMY-winning a cappella group Pentatonix, where he innovatively combines cello and beatboxing to create a unique sound. After his groundbreaking ‘celloboxing’ version of Mark Summer’s ‘Julie-O’ went viral in April 2011, Kevin Olusola was quickly recruited to join a new a cappella group, Pentatonix, for NBC’s ‘The Sing-Off.’ The group went on to win Season 3 of the competition in November 2011, securing a recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment and a cash prize. Olusola, a multi-talented musician and beatboxer, graduated from Yale University in 2011 with a degree in East Asian Studies, having developed his distinctive ‘celloboxing’ technique – playing cello and beatboxing simultaneously – during a leave of absence for intensive Chinese study. His extensive early musical training also included serving as the principal saxophonist of the United States Collegiate Wind Band, undertaking a three-week tour of Europe in 2000.

He was personally selected by Quincy Jones to represent him at the 2012 Montreux Jazz Festival and opened the prestigious TED Conference in Vancouver, showcasing his signature ‘celloboxing’ style to a diverse global audience. Through his innovative ‘celloboxing’ technique and his integral role in Pentatonix, Olusola has consistently pushed musical boundaries, blending classical training with contemporary vocal percussive elements. His unique artistic expression has established him as a distinctive figure within the music industry. As a key member of the multi-GRAMMY-winning Pentatonix, he continues to contribute to the group’s ongoing success and touring, captivating audiences worldwide with their innovative arrangements and dynamic performances.
