Kim Mitchell

Kim Mitchell is a Canadian rock musician who gained recognition as the lead singer and guitarist for Max Webster before achieving multi-platinum success as a solo artist. After gaining recognition as the lead singer and guitarist for Max Webster, Kim Mitchell charted internationally and achieved significant album success. Co-founding the progressive hard rock band with Pye Dubois, Max Webster’s 1976 debut, ‘Max Webster,’ and follow-ups ‘High Class in Borrowed Shoes’ (1977) and ‘Mutiny Up My Sleeve’ (1978), each attained gold certification in Canada. The band’s 1979 album, ‘A Million Vacations,’ achieved platinum status and featured the single ‘Paradise Skies,’ which charted in the UK.

Mitchell departed Max Webster in 1982 to launch his solo career, releasing his self-titled mini-album that same year. His 1984 album, ‘Akimbo Alogo,’ solidified his solo presence with the hit single ‘Go for Soda,’ reaching number 86 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Mitchell’s solo career trajectory continued with the 1986 album ‘Shakin’ Like a Human Being,’ his most commercially successful Canadian album, achieving triple-platinum certification. This album included smash hits ‘Patio Lanterns,’ ‘Alana Loves Me,’ and ‘Easy to Tame,’ earning him the Juno Award for Album of the Year in 1987.

Further celebrating his legacy, his former band Max Webster was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2023, solidifying his impact across decades of rock music.
