Laurel Halo is an electronic musician, composer, and DJ known for her diverse musical explorations and critically acclaimed releases. After the release of her critically acclaimed debut album, ‘Quarantine,’ on the Hyperdub label in 2012, Laurel Halo quickly established herself as a leading figure in experimental electronic music. ‘Quarantine’ garnered significant recognition, including being named Album of the Year by The Wire magazine in 2012. Building on this momentum, Halo continued her prolific output with Hyperdub, releasing the ‘Behind the Green Door’ EP and her second album, ‘Chance of Rain,’ both in 2013.
Her collaborative spirit was showcased on the Moritz von Oswald Trio’s album ‘Dissent’ (2021). She continued contributing to fashion, composing the score for Cecilie Bahnsen’s Fall/Winter 2022 runway show at Paris Fashion Week in 2022. That year also featured the premiere of her multichannel work ‘Octavia,’ commissioned by Ina-GRM, and her production of Anja Lauvdal’s debut solo album ‘From a Story Now Lost.’ Further solidifying her influence in electronic music education, Halo joined the Composition and Experimental Sound Practices faculty at The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts in January 2023. Her fifth album, ‘Atlas,’ released on Awe in 2023, received critical acclaim, earning an 8.1 rating from Pitchfork and being named 2023 Album of the Year by Boomkat.
Most recently, in 2024, Halo released ‘Octavia’ as a split LP with Jessica Ekomane on Shelter Press / Portraits GRM.
