Lauren Ashley Daigle was born on September 9, 1991, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and grew up in Lafayette. Her early life was influenced by local zydeco, blues, and Cajun music, and she began singing at a young age, with her mother calling their house “the music box.” A turning point came at age 15 when she contracted cytomegalovirus, which kept her out of school for two years. During this time, Daigle took voice lessons, which provided a creative outlet. She initially considered a career in medicine and mission work, completing high school early and undertaking mission work in Brazil before attending Louisiana State University for Child and Family Studies.
She ventured into music professionally after several attempts on “American Idol” between 2010 and 2012, where she advanced to the Hollywood rounds but was ultimately cut. Her career began to gain traction when she sang background vocals for a local band, leading to an invitation from Centricity Music. After filling in for an ailing singer at a workshop, she signed with Centricity Music in 2013. Her debut single, “Light of the World,” was released in 2013 as part of a holiday album. Her debut EP, “How Can It Be,” followed in September 2014, laying the groundwork for her full-length album of the same name. She has embarked on several tours, including the Outcry Tour in 2015 and 2017, the Winter Jam Tour 2016, and her own sold-out headline tour, “A Night With Lauren Daigle,” in late 2016.
In 2018, Daigle released “Look Up Child,” which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, making it the highest-charting Christian album by a woman in over 20 years. Its lead single, “You Say,” achieved significant mainstream success, peaking at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 and setting a record for weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Christian Songs chart. This album and single earned her two Grammy Awards. Her success continued with the release of her self-titled album in 2023, which debuted at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top Christian Albums chart. Daigle has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including twelve GMA Dove Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, and four American Music Awards.
