Kimetrius Christopher Foose, known as Lil Skies, was born on August 4, 1998, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He was introduced to music by his father, a hip hop artist, and began freestyling at the age of three. His early life involved moving to Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and witnessing his father’s recovery from a workplace chemical explosion. These personal experiences influenced his music, providing a foundation for his artistic expression. He temporarily worked at a McDonald’s and a Japanese restaurant to fund his music career.
Lil Skies started his career by releasing mixtapes and singles on platforms like SoundCloud. He gained significant attention with tracks such as “Red Roses” and “Nowadays,” both featuring Landon Cube. These songs achieved recognition on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at numbers 69 and 55, respectively. His major label debut mixtape, “Life of a Dark Rose,” released in 2018 through Atlantic Records, reached number ten on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. This period marked his transition from an independent artist to a mainstream presence, leading to national tours and increased visibility.
His career further progressed with the release of his debut studio album, “Shelby,” in 2019, which debuted at number five on the Billboard 200. This album, named after his mother, included the single “I.” In 2021, he released his second studio album, “Unbothered,” which reached number 50 on the Billboard 200. Lil Skies has demonstrated sustained engagement in the music industry through consistent releases, touring, and collaborations, consolidating his position as a notable figure in contemporary hip-hop music.
