Lee Hyun, born on November 8, 1983, in South Korea, embarked on his musical journey by winning MBC’s ‘Show Vival’ and subsequently debuted as the main vocalist of the co-ed group 8Eight in 2007. During his tenure with 8Eight, which released three studio albums and two extended plays between 2007 and 2011, he gained recognition for his vocal sensitivities, contributing to the group becoming a top vocal act in Korea’s coffee house scene. In 2005, Lee Hyun joined Big Hit Entertainment as a trainee, officially signing with the company in 2007. Beyond 8Eight, he expanded his career through the project duo Homme, alongside Lee Chang-min of 2AM, from 2010 to 2018, further solidifying his position as a diverse and accomplished artist. His work with Homme produced music that resonated with a wide audience, showcasing his adaptability and powerful vocal delivery in a different musical setting.
Lee Hyun initiated his solo career on September 8, 2009, with the single “30 Minutes Ago,” which was part of Bang Si-hyuk’s Goodbye trilogy of songs. He then released his debut solo album, “The Healing Echo,” in 2012, demonstrating his capabilities as a singer-songwriter with tracks like “Your Lips” and “Will There Be a Next Time.” His talent was further highlighted during his four consecutive wins on MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer,” where he showcased his vocal range and stage presence. In 2012, Lee Hyun also enlisted for his mandatory military service, serving as an active-duty soldier and co-starring in the military musical ‘The Promise’ before his discharge in 2014. He has been a consistent presence in the music industry, renewing his contract with Big Hit Music in March 2021 and becoming the first artist to debut as part of Hybe Corp’s “Project L” in March 2023 with his alter ego, Midnatt, utilizing advanced AI voice synthesis and extended reality technologies for his single “Masquerade.” His contributions to various soundtracks, including “BTS World: Original Soundtrack” in 2019, further attest to his continuous involvement and influence in the music landscape.
