Tinged with experimental sounds and supported by poetic lyrics, London rapper Little Simz’s music has led her to becoming one of the UK’s most exhilarating musical, let alone rap, talents. Beginning with her first mixtape STRATOSPHERE in 2010, Little Simz went on to record 3 other mixtapes and 7 EPs in the space of 5 years. One of her early hits “devour”, from her first EP E.D.G.E in 2014, has since accumulated 4 million streams.
In 2015 she released her debut album A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons under her independent label AGE: 101 Music. It was placed No.20 on the UK R&B Albums charts on its release. She quickly went on to release her 2nd album Stillness in Wonderland in 2016.
Following various hit singles, in 2017 she opened for the Gorillaz as well as featured on their Humanz album. In 2018 she began releasing singles that would later form her 3rd album, Grey Area. The 2019 album won best album at both the Ivor Novello and NME Awards as well as being nominated for the Mercury Prize. The album’s eclecticism, depth and masterful writing struck a chord with the UK R&B world, securing Little Simz as one of London’s most prominent and exciting artists in the genre.
Particular hits from the album include “Selfish” with 18 million streams, “101 FM” with 12 million streams and “Offence”. Her most recent project has been her 6th EP, Drop 6. Illustrating her unapologetic lyrics and sound, “might bang might not” is the EP’s most successful hit with 4 million streams. Constantly releasing and creating new, fresher sounds, Little Simz is consistently at the forefront of R&B’s development.
With acclaim from both Kendrick Lamar and Dizzee Rascal, Little Simz is by far one of the UK’s most compelling and exciting artists.
