London rapper Fredo hit number one during 2018 with ‘Funky Friday, a collaboration with the legendary Dave. It was the first song by a British rap artist to reach the top spot for three years and, with 6.7 million streams and views, brought Fredo’s remarkable talents to a wider audience. He has since had further hits, including ‘Netflix & Chill’ and, in collaboration with Mist, ‘So High’, both of which were certified silver. He signed to major label RCA for his 2019 debut album, Third Avenue, which topped the UK R&B charts and made the official UK Top Five.
Fredo hails from Queen’s Park, London and grew up in West London and Hertfordshire. His began his musical career with local collective The Harrow Road Boyz, who he began rapping with because he felt he could offer a more authentic view of contemporary London life. Graduating from the group, he dropped his debut solo track, ‘They Ain’t 100’, in 2016, which quickly gained radio play and racked up millions of views on YouTube. The following March, he released his debut mixtape, Get Rich or Get Recalled, which made the UK album charts. A year and several singles and guest appearances later, his second mixtape, Tables Turn, broke into the top five, heralding the start of what turned out to be his breakthrough year. As well as ‘Funky Friday’, he scored a gold-certified hit with ‘Ay Caramba’, a collaboration with Stay Flee Get Lizzy and Young T & Bugsey.
With Third Avenue, named after the street in Queen’s Park where he grew, an undoubted success, and further singles making the charts during 2020, Fredo remains clearly at the forefront of British music.
