Brody Dalle, born Bree Joanna Alice Robinson on January 1, 1979, in Melbourne, Australia, began her musical journey at the age of 13. Her early influences included bands like Nirvana, Hole, Babes in Toyland, and Bikini Kill. At 16, her first band, Sourpuss, performed at Australia’s Summersault Festival, where she met Tim Armstrong of Rancid. Prompted by this connection, she moved to Los Angeles at 18 and founded The Distillers, a punk rock band that would gain significant recognition.
The Distillers released their debut album in 2000, followed by “Sing Sing Death House” in 2002 and “Coral Fang” in 2003. Despite lineup changes, Dalle remained a continuous presence, navigating the band through commercial success and critical acclaim, often drawing comparisons to Courtney Love and PJ Harvey. After The Distillers disbanded in 2006 due to exhaustion from extensive touring, Dalle embarked on new musical endeavors. She formed the project Spinnerette with Alain Johannes, releasing an EP “Ghetto Love” in 2008 and a self-titled album in 2009. In 2014, she released her first solo album, “Diploid Love,” which featured collaborations with Shirley Manson of Garbage and Emily Kokal of Warpaint.
Her career has involved various guest appearances on tracks for artists such as Eagles of Death Metal, Transplants, Queens of the Stone Age, Leftöver Crack, Nosfell, and Boots Electric.
