Luis Figueroa, born on September 18, 1989, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, developed an early interest in music, influenced by his Puerto Rican heritage. His vocal talents and songwriting abilities became apparent at a young age, with music serving as a significant positive influence in his youth. He participated in various talent shows, including “Star Search” in 2003 and “American Idol” in 2007. Figueroa further pursued his musical education at the Berklee College of Music in Boston starting in 2007. During this period, he began uploading song covers to YouTube, which eventually led to significant career opportunities.
His YouTube covers, particularly his rendition of Marc Anthony’s “Flor Pálida” in 2014, gained substantial attention. Marc Anthony personally reached out to Figueroa, which led to a signing with Magnus Media, Anthony’s entertainment company, in 2016. In the same year, Figueroa received an award at the Premios Juventud for “Favorite Hispanic YouTube Cover Artist” for “Flor Pálida,” performing the song live with Marc Anthony and pianist Sergio George. This marked a turning point in his career, establishing his presence in the Latin music industry. He also spent six months filming the musical series “Guerra de ídolos” in Mexico, playing an urban artist and singing the show’s theme song.
Figueroa continued to build his career with significant collaborations and releases. After a second single, “Hopeless,” was released in 2017 under Magnus Media, he toured as a backing vocalist for Romeo Santos on three international tours, including the “Golden Tour” in 2018. During this time, he co-wrote “Por Perro” for Sebastian Yatra and Lary Over, a song that achieved considerable success with over 600 million YouTube views. In late 2019, Figueroa signed with Sony Music Latin, releasing the single “La Especialista.” His debut long-player, “Canciones del Alma,” was released in 2021, followed by a self-titled EP in 2022, and subsequent EPs “Voy a Ti” in 2023 and “Coexistencia” in 2024. His work has consistently appeared on Billboard charts, earning him multiple GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY nominations, and he has been recognized for his contributions to revitalizing the salsa genre.
