Mac Powell, originally from Clanton, Alabama, is a renowned American singer, songwriter, producer, and musician best known as the frontman and co-founder of the influential Christian rock band Third Day. Formed in the mid-1990s alongside guitarist Mark Lee, Powell and Lee remained the band’s only constant members throughout its nearly three-decade career. Under Powell’s leadership, Third Day sold over 10 million albums, earned four Grammy Awards, one American Music Award, and 24 Dove Awards, and was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, solidifying their legacy in Christian music.
After Third Day’s farewell tour in 2018, Powell embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut Christian album “New Creation” on October 15, 2021. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Top Christian & Gospel album chart, showcasing Powell’s continued relevance in the genre. The lead single, “River of Life,” became a Top 10 hit at Christian radio, followed by the title track, which spent seven weeks at No. 2 and 19 weeks in the top 10, demonstrating Powell’s ability to connect with audiences.
In addition to his solo work, Powell has explored country music, releasing the album “Back Again” under the banner of Mac Powell and the Family Reunion. This project reflects his versatility as an artist and his willingness to experiment with different musical styles while maintaining his roots in Christian music.
As of 2024, Powell is set to release his second solo Christian album, “I Love Jesus,” further expanding his discography and influence in the music industry. He continues to reside in Atlanta, Georgia, where he is actively involved in his community and church, inspiring others through his music and faith.
