Hugo Pierre Leclercq, known professionally as Madeon, was born on May 30, 1994, in Nantes, France. He began composing music at the age of 11, initially producing hands-up music under the alias “Deamon” and “Wayne Mont” before adopting the name Madeon around 2010 to produce house music. His career gained international momentum at age 17 with the YouTube video “Pop Culture” (2011), a real-time mash-up of 39 popular songs performed on a Novation Launchpad. This viral video amassed millions of views within days, establishing his reputation as an innovative electronic artist. His early work also included winning a remix competition for Pendulum’s “The Island” (2010) and releasing his debut single “Icarus” (2012) on his independent label, popcultur.
Madeon’s career progressed significantly through various collaborations and live performances. He toured as an opening act for Lady Gaga during her Born This Way Ball (2012) and contributed to three tracks (“Gypsy,” “Mary Jane Holland,” and “Venus”) on her third studio album, “Artpop” (2013). His tracks were widely used in media, with “Icarus” featuring in “Dancing with the Stars” (2012, 2013) and “Forza Horizon,” while “Finale” and “Imperium” appeared in EA Sports’ “FIFA” series (2013, 2015). His debut studio album, “Adventure,” released in 2015, featured artists such as Passion Pit and Mark Foster of Foster the People. The album reached number one on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart and was supported by extensive tours, including the Adventure Live and Pixel Empire US tours.
In 2016, Madeon collaborated with his friend Porter Robinson on the track “Shelter,” leading to the co-headlining Shelter Live Tour across the US and Europe (2016-2017). His second album, “Good Faith,” released in 2019, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Electronic Album (2021). Madeon continued to work with prominent artists, co-writing and co-producing “911” for Lady Gaga’s “Chromatica” (2020). After a temporary hiatus from touring, he announced his “Victory” album (2026), debuting its new live show concept at Red Rocks Amphitheatre (2025) and featuring collaborations with Slayyyter and Sam Gellaitry.
