Harry Michael, known professionally as Masked Wolf, was born on February 12, 1991, in Sydney, New South Wales. Raised by his Greek immigrant grandparents, Michael developed an early interest in music, learning to play instruments such as the piano, keyboard, guitar, and drums. He was deeply influenced by American hip-hop artists and began writing at the age of 13. His early musical journey included creating Christian raps after encouragement from his church pastor’s son. Masked Wolf signed with Teamwrk Records and released his debut single “Speed Racer” in December 2018. He continued to release music through this label until 2021. His career trajectory changed significantly with the global success of his song “Astronaut in the Ocean.” Initially released in June 2019, the track gained massive traction by 2021, becoming a sleeper hit after widespread use on TikTok.
