Matt Maltese served as the composer for the Royal Shakespeare Company's stage production of Twelfth Night. He created original music for William Shakespeare's text and an original song titled "Maybe This Christmas". The production ran in Stratford-upon-Avon and is scheduled for a revival at the Barbican Centre, London.
Maltese signed a deal with Atlantic Records (via its subdivision Café Bleu Recordings) in 2017, after completing his BA Creative Musicianship degree course.
Matt Maltese's third studio album, *Good Morning It's Now Tomorrow*, was released in October 2021 through Nettwerk. Nettwerk also handled his public relations.
Matthew Jonathan Gordon Maltese was born on October 6, 1995, to Canadian parents in Reading, England. He began writing music at the age of 14 and pursued A Levels in Music, Maths, English, and Economics at the Henley College. His early career involved buying and selling vinyl, which provided the means for him to relocate to Camden, London, to further his musical pursuits. His debut single, “Even If It’s a Lie,” was released on SoundCloud in 2015, marking the beginning of his professional music career. Following this, he signed with Café Bleu Recordings, a subdivision of Atlantic Records, and released his EP, *In a New Bed*, in 2016.
Maltese continued to gain recognition with his 2017 single “As the World Caves In,” which later experienced a resurgence on TikTok in May 2021 and was certified Silver in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry in January 2023. His debut album, *Bad Contestant*, produced by Jonathan Rado, was released in June 2018. This was followed by his sophomore album, *Krystal*, largely recorded and produced in his home studio, which led to a UK headline tour in November 2019. Throughout 2020 and 2021, Maltese released singles like “Ballad of a Pandemic” and “Queen Bee,” and his third studio album, *Good Morning It’s Now Tomorrow*.
In recent years, Maltese has demonstrated significant career progression, including the release of his EP *Quiet Recordings* in 2022, and his fourth studio album, *Driving Just to Drive*, in April 2023. He also released the cover album *Songs That Aren’t Mine* in March 2024 and his fifth studio album, *Hers*, is slated for release in May 2025. Beyond his solo work, Maltese has composed for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of *Twelfth Night* in 2024 and founded his own record label, Last Recordings On Earth, in summer 2023. He has also written songs for other artists such as Birdy, Matilda Mann, Joy Crookes, and Jamie T.
