The 12-year-old Philadelphia native took the next big step in his musical career, signing a record deal with Warner Bros., according to a report from DJ Booth.
Instead of only securing a deal for Ox himself, Finesse revealed that Warner signed a partnership with Working on Dying, LLC, which he co-owns.
Matthew Christopher Grau, known professionally as Matt Ox, was born on December 13, 2004, in Lawncrest, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He began his music career at the age of 11, focusing on hip-hop. His early immersion in the industry led him to be homeschooled. Ox gained initial recognition at the age of 12 with the release of his single “Overwhelming” in 2017, which featured instrumentals by Oogie Mane. This early success established his presence in the rap community, leading to further career developments.
In 2018, Matt Ox signed a record deal with Warner, followed by a signing with Motown within the same year. A significant milestone in his career was his collaboration with XXXTentacion on the track “$$$”, which was featured on XXXTentacion’s sophomore album “?” (2018). This track achieved platinum certification. His debut album, “Ox,” was released on October 30, 2018, featuring 11 songs and collaborations with artists such as Chief Keef, Key!, and Valee. The album was produced by the Philadelphia-based production team Working on Dying.
Ox continued to expand his discography with the release of various projects. His mixtape “Sweet 16” was released on December 13, 2020, followed by his solo extended play “Unorthodox” on February 12, 2021. This EP consisted of 5 tracks and did not feature any guest artists. On January 31, 2022, he released his second album, “Year Of The Ox,” which included appearances from Lancey Foux and UnoTheActivist. He has also released several other mixtapes and EPs, including “Teenrave” (2022), “Oxygen” (with Surf Gang, 2023), “Teenrage” (2023), and “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up” (2024), demonstrating consistent output and artistic evolution.
