Mental Cruelty

Mental Cruelty was founded in 2014 in Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The band initially gained recognition for its distinctive blend of deathcore and elements of slam death metal. Their early career included the release of their debut demo, “Sickening World,” in 2015, followed by the EP “Pereat Mundus” in 2016. These initial releases laid the groundwork for their technical sound and established them within the underground extreme metal community.

In 2018, Mental Cruelty released their debut album, “Purgatorium,” after signing with Rising Nemesis Records. This was a significant step, leading to increased exposure and critical attention. The band then partnered with Unique Leader Records in 2019, under which they released their second album, “Inferis,” produced by Sky van Hoff. This period marked a transition in their sound, incorporating more blackened deathcore elements. Milestones during this phase included the single “Ultima Hypocrita” in 2021, featuring guitarist Yo Onityan, and the release of their third full-length album, “A Hill to Die Upon.”

The band’s career continued to evolve with a signing to Century Media Records in 2022. During this time, Lukas Nicolai from Sun Eater joined as the new vocalist, ushering in a new chapter for the band. In 2023, they released their fourth studio album, “Zwielicht,” which continued their exploration of blackened deathcore with symphonic influences. Recent activities include the release of orchestral and instrumental versions from “Zwielicht,” demonstrating their ongoing artistic development and commitment to their genre.
