Michael Franks

Michael Franks has cultivated a distinctive career as a singer-songwriter, known for his unique blend of jazz, bossa nova, and sophisticated pop. After composing the antiwar musical, ‘Anthems in E-flat,’ in 1968, Michael Franks quickly established himself as a distinctive singer-songwriter. He went on to contribute music for films such as 1974’s Cockfighter and Zandy’s Bride. A significant early milestone was his collaboration with blues legends Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, who recorded three of his original songs, including ‘White Boy Lost in the Blues,’ for their 1973 album Sonny & Brownie.

In 2018, Franks released his most recent album, The Music in My Head, further showcasing his distinctive blend of literary themes and musical sophistication. Beyond his musical endeavors, Franks has been an ardent advocate for animal protection and rescue, actively involved in the cause for over two decades.
