Napalm Death

Napalm Death, credited as pioneers of the grindcore genre, established a significant and enduring influence on heavy and experimental music for nearly 40 years. A crucial turning point occurred in 1986 with a lineup change that brought in Mick Harris on drums and Justin Broadrick on guitar, refining the band’s extreme musical style. Their demo recordings from these years, including ‘From Enslavement to Obliteration’ and ‘Scum,’ laid the groundwork for their groundbreaking debut album. In 1987, after further lineup changes, Napalm Death released Scum on Earache Records.

Their departure from Earache Records in the late 1990s led to Enemy of the Music Business (2000), an album expressing their dissatisfaction with the industry. They continued to release albums like Order of the Leech (2002), Leaders Not Followers: Part 2 (2004), The Code Is Red…Long Live the Code (2005), and Smear Campaign (2006), consistently maintaining their extreme metal sound with progressive elements. In 2011, Napalm Death appeared in E4’s Skins, and in 2012, they headlined the Metal Mayhem IV festival in Nepal. Their 2012 album, Utilitarian, was followed by a collaboration with ceramicist Keith Harrison for the ‘Bustleholme’ performance in 2013, and a Cardiacs cover ‘To Go Off and Things’ released for charity in 2014.

The band released Apex Predator – Easy Meat in 2015, followed by the Earth Wire charity track later that year. In 2018, they joined Slayer’s final North American tour, further solidifying their impact. Most recently, Napalm Death released the Logic Ravaged by Brute Force EP and their critically acclaimed album Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism, both in 2020, continuing their legacy as innovators in extreme metal.
