Clay Cook is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter recognized for his integral role in the Zac Brown Band, contributing guitar, keyboards, and vocals to their award-winning music. After forming the duo Lo-Fi Masters with John Mayer in the late 1990s, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Clay Cook went on to co-write multiple songs for Mayer’s early releases, including ‘No Such Thing,’ ‘Comfortable,’ ‘Man on the Side,’ and ‘Neon.’ Cook’s contributions to this partnership were often in a producerial role, refining lyrical and musical concepts. Following two years of collaboration, Cook moved with Mayer to Atlanta in March 1998, developing their music careers by performing at local venues like Eddie’s Attic. Transitioning to new opportunities in the early 2000s, Cook joined The Marshall Tucker Band, where he quickly expanded his instrumental proficiency to include flute and saxophone, complementing his existing guitar skills.
Concurrently, Cook cultivated a successful solo career, releasing albums such as ‘The Year I Grew Up’ in 2008 and ‘On Mountain Time’ in 2009. His subsequent solo efforts, ‘North Star’ (2013) and ‘Unobstructed View’ (2017), were both released under Zac Brown’s Southern Ground label. Beyond his work as a performer and songwriter, Cook has established himself as a respected producer and mixer. His Atlanta studio has served as the recording location for Zac Brown Band albums ‘The Foundation’ and ‘You Get What You Give.’ He has also produced and mixed albums for other artists, including Atlanta-based Gareth Asher and the Earthlings, and a single for Echoes End in recent years, further showcasing his comprehensive musical expertise and continued influence in the industry.
