PNL, an acronym for Peace N’ Lovés, is a French rap duo consisting of brothers Ademo (Tarik Andrieu) and N.O.S (Nabil Andrieu). The brothers grew up in the Les Tarterêts neighborhood of Corbeil-Essonnes, France. Their father, René Andrieu, had a criminal record, having served an eight-year sentence for bank robbery. Their mother came from Algeria. Before forming PNL, both brothers pursued solo careers. Tarik released his first mixtape, “Le Son des Halls Vol. 1,” in 2008, followed by a second volume in 2011. Nabil released his mixtape, “Calmement (365 Jours Pour Percer),” in 2011. PNL officially formed in 2014, with their debut together following Ademo’s release from prison. Their early work quickly gained attention for its distinct sound and lyrical content, moving away from previous solo styles.
In 2015, PNL released their mixtape “Que la famille,” followed by their debut studio album, “Le Monde Chico,” later that year. “Le Monde Chico” achieved commercial success, earning 2x platinum certification in France for selling over 200,000 copies. A single from the album, “Le monde ou rien,” gained broader cultural relevance, becoming a slogan for the Nuit debout social movement. Their second album, “Dans la légende,” released in 2016, further solidified their presence in the music industry, achieving Diamond certification with over 1,000,000 copies sold across Europe. This album was supported by a six-city tour in France in 2017. The duo’s success extended internationally, with an invitation to perform at Coachella in 2017; however, Ademo was denied entry into the United States due to his criminal record, preventing their appearance.
PNL continued to release successful singles, such as “À l’ammoniaque” and “91’s” in 2018, both reaching number one on the French singles chart. In 2019, they released their third album, “Deux frères,” which broke records by selling over 100,000 copies in its first week, a significant achievement for French rap. The album produced the number one single “Au DD,” the music video for which was notable for being filmed on the Eiffel Tower, marking a unique accomplishment for a musical duo. In June 2019, PNL launched their QLF merchandise collection, including sneakers, tracksuits, jeans, and T-shirts, and appeared in the Off-White fashion show in Paris. The same year, Apple Music announced a partnership with PNL, involving co-branded videos and promotional activities. In July 2020, Netflix France released an hour-long documentary about their 2017 “Dans la légende” tour.
