Californian rapper Rodney Jerome Brown Jr. is better known as RJMrLA. Rapping and freestyling from a young age, RJ finally released his own material in 2013 with the debut mixtape O.M.M.I.O (or On My Mama I’m On). This collaboration with respected DJ and producer DJ Mustard – who has also worked with other West Coast artists such as Ty Dolla $ign and YG and written for Rihanna – included lead single Ride Wit Me, which became a massive hit on YouTube and was eventually remixed with the late Nipsey Hussle and K Camp.
In 2014 DJ Mustard released his own album 10 Summers and RJ appeared on three tracks and was included in further collaborations with Royce, Jeezy, Reem Riches and Slim 400. In 2015 and 2016 RJ started to work with fellow rap artists like The Game, Drakeo The Ruler, Rich The Kid, Ty Dolla $ign and top songwriter and producer Eric Bellinger. He also released his single Get Rich, which brought him the attention of major labels.
RJ’s first solo album Mr LA was released in 2017, described by Pitchfork as feeling like “summer in a way only West Coast artists can portray”. This was quickly followed by another LP, produced in collaboration with long term supporter DJ Mustard. RJ signed with Empire Records to release his latest and much-anticipated album On God earlier this year. Consistently active on social media, RJ shares new releases and videos with his 236k followers on Instagram.
