Chinsea Linda Lee, known professionally as Shenseea, was born on October 1, 1996, in Mandeville, Jamaica. Her passion for music emerged at a young age, inspired by artists like Whitney Houston, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, and Bounty Killer. She began developing her vocal abilities by singing in church and joining the choir. Shenseea attended Mona High School and later enrolled in Exed Community College, majoring in Entertainment Management. However, due to financial challenges, she was unable to complete her studies. As a single mother to her son, Raj, Shenseea was motivated to pursue her dreams in the music industry.
Her career began to gain momentum in 2016 when she released her debut single, “Jiggle Jiggle.” This led to opportunities, including a collaboration with Vybz Kartel on the track “Loodi,” which significantly increased her visibility. Her early success was recognized with awards such as “Young Hot and Hype Artist” at the Youth View Awards and “Break Out Celebrity of 2016.” She was also awarded “Collaboration of The Year” for “Loodi.” Shenseea signed with Romeich Entertainment, marking a serious commitment to her music career. In 2017, she performed on Reggae Sumfest’s main stage and toured internationally, expanding her audience.
Shenseea has demonstrated versatility by working across genres, including hip-hop and pop. In 2019, she signed with Interscope Records and released “Blessed” featuring Tyga. Her collaborations include tracks with Sean Paul, Christina Aguilera, Rvssian, Swae Lee, Young Thug, Masego, and Major Lazer. Notably, she contributed to Kanye West’s 2021 album *Donda*, appearing on “Pure Souls” and “Ok Ok pt 2.” This collaboration earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Album of the Year in 2022. Her debut studio album, *Alpha* (2022), reached number two on the Top Reggae Albums chart, and her second album, *Never Gets Late Here* (2024), received a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album.
