About

Born Skip Marley Minto on June 4, 1996, in Kingston, Jamaica, and raised in Miami, Florida, he is the son of Cedella Marley and David Minto, and grandson of Bob and Rita Marley. From an early age, Marley developed a passion for music, teaching himself to play instruments including piano, drums, guitar, and bass. His musical journey officially began in 2015 with the release of his debut singles, “Cry to Me” and “Life,” both under the Tuff Gong label. Following these initial releases, he extended his exposure by joining his uncles, Damian and Stephen Marley, on their “Catch a Fire” tour, further solidifying his presence in the music scene.

2016 marked a significant year for Marley as he gained increased visibility through his participation in a Gap 1969 Denim campaign. The following year, in 2017, he signed with Island Records and released the single “Lions,” which later featured in a Pepsi commercial. A pivotal moment in his career was his collaboration with Katy Perry on her 2017 hit single, “Chained to the Rhythm.” This collaboration led to high-profile performances at major events such as the Grammy Awards, Brit Awards, and iHeartRadio Music Awards. These appearances brought him mainstream attention and significantly broadened his audience. He continued to release music, including the single “Calm Down” in April 2017, and in 2019, he collaborated with Major Lazer on “Can’t Take It from Me” and with H.E.R. on “Slow Down.”

Marley released his debut extended play (EP), “Higher Place,” on August 28, 2020. This EP featured several notable tracks, including “Slow Down” with H.E.R. and “Make Me Feel,” which included collaborations with Rick Ross and Ari Lennox. “Slow Down” received critical acclaim and earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Song. The EP itself was nominated for Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards. His career has been marked by a blend of reggae, pop, and hip-hop influences, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to evolving his sound while honoring his musical heritage. In 2024, his track “Exodus” from “Bob Marley: One Love” won Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards.
