About

Slightly Stoopid was formed in 1994 in Ocean Beach, California, by childhood friends Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald, alongside drummer Adam Bausch. The band quickly garnered attention, with Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell discovering them practicing in a garage and subsequently signing them to his Skunk Records label while they were still in high school. This early endorsement launched their career, leading to their self-titled debut album, “Slightly $toopid,” in 1996, which featured a guest appearance by Nowell. They followed this with “The Longest Barrel Ride” in 1998, establishing their presence in the reggae-rock scene.

In the early 2000s, Slightly Stoopid diversified their musical output, self-releasing “Acoustic Roots: Live & Direct” in 2001 on their own Stoopid Records label. This period also saw shifts in the band’s lineup, with Ryan ‘RyMo’ Moran joining on drums in 2000 and Oguer ‘OG’ Ocon adding percussion and vocals in 2002. Their 2003 album, “Everything You Need,” released on Surfdog Records, marked a significant commercial success, selling over 185,000 copies. The band continued to evolve, integrating horn players Christofer “C-Money” Welter and Daniel “DeLa” Delacruz in 2006, further enriching their sound. This expanded lineup contributed to the success of albums like “Closer to the Sun” (2005), which debuted on the Billboard Top 200, and “Chronchitis” (2007), reaching number 55 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 on the Independent Albums chart.

Slightly Stoopid has a history of extensive touring and notable collaborations. They have performed at major festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits, and have toured internationally across Australia, Japan, and Europe. Collaborations with prominent artists such as Snoop Dogg, Bob Weir, Stephen Marley, Cypress Hill, and Karl Denson have further cemented their status. Their album “Top of the World” (2012) achieved their highest chart position, debuting at number 13 on the Billboard 200, followed by “Meanwhile…Back At The Lab” (2015) and “Everyday Life, Everyday People” (2018), which topped the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. The band continues to engage in diverse projects, including collaborations with eco-friendly brands and brewing companies, showcasing their continued relevance and adaptability.
