Son Volt is an American rock band that emerged from the alternative country rock movement, known for its foundational influence on Americana music and a consistent output of critically recognized albums. The band continues to record and tour, offering their signature blend of alternative rock, country, folk, and Americana sounds. After forming in 1994 by Jay Farrar following the dissolution of Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt quickly established its foundational influence on Americana music with the release of its debut album ‘Trace’ in 1995. The album garnered significant critical acclaim and commercial success, selling 297,000 copies in the United States by 2009.

Son Volt launched ‘The Electro Melodier Society’ fan club in 2020, fostering a dedicated community around their music. The band continues its legacy of consistent musical output and evolution, deeply rooted in Americana, and exploring themes from social commentary to personal relationships. In 2023, Son Volt released ‘Day of the Doug,’ a tribute album, further upholding their status as a significant and enduring act in American rock and alternative country.
