Terry Sanchez Wallace Jr., known professionally as Tee Grizzley, was born on March 23, 1994, in Detroit, Michigan. Raised by his grandmother, he developed an interest in rap music during middle school and formed the group All Stars Ball Hard (ASBH). In 2011, his mother received a 20-year prison sentence for drug trafficking, and his father was murdered in 2012. Wallace attended Michigan State University, studying finance and accounting, before a series of legal issues led to his incarceration. While imprisoned, he dedicated himself to songwriting, an experience that shaped his debut musical works.
Following his release from prison in October 2016, Tee Grizzley launched his music career, releasing his debut single “First Day Out” in November 2016. The song quickly became a viral success, garnering over two million YouTube views within three weeks and leading to a record deal with 300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records in 2017. His debut mixtape, “My Moment,” was released in April 2017, generating significant attention and critically acclaimed collaborations. Notable tracks like “From the D to the A” featuring Lil Yachty earned double platinum certification by the RIAA, marking a significant early career milestone.
Tee Grizzley’s career progressed with a consistent output of albums and mixtapes. His debut studio album, “Activated,” released in 2018, peaked at number ten on the Billboard 200. Subsequent albums like “Scriptures” (2019) and “Built for Whatever” (2021) also achieved notable chart positions.
