The Stranglers are an English rock band recognized for their significant presence in the UK punk and new wave scenes, achieving mainstream success across five decades. After establishing themselves as a distinctive force in the mid-1970s pub rock scene, The Stranglers quickly became associated with the emerging UK punk rock movement by 1976, opening for notable acts such as the Ramones and Patti Smith. The band, formed in 1974, released their first three albums Rattus Norvegicus and No More Heroes in 1977, followed by Black and White in 1978 within a 13-month period. These commercially successful albums generated hit singles including ‘Peaches’ and ‘No More Heroes,’ setting the band apart with their confrontational approach and unique sound, characterized by Jean-Jacques Burnel’s melodic bass and Dave Greenfield’s prominent keyboards.
