About

Vivian Green, born Vivian Sakiyyah Green on May 22, 1979, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, began her musical journey at an early age. The Green household was immersed in diverse musical genres, including Motown, jazz, and Broadway Musicals. She started singing at five, played the piano by ear at eight, and composed her first song at eleven. At thirteen, Green joined a female quintet called Younique, performing at various local events. During high school, she co-wrote “Dear God” for Boyz II Men’s 1997 double-platinum album, “Evolution.” Following high school, Green sang professionally with the Sid Miller Orchestra and CTO on the local party circuit.

Green’s career advanced significantly when she and singer-songwriter Eric Roberson created a demo that attracted major labels. Concurrently, she became a backup singer for artist Jill Scott. In 2001, she signed with Columbia Records, leading to the release of her debut album, “A Love Story,” in November 2002. This album produced the number-one single “Emotional Rollercoaster,” achieved gold certification, and earned Green nominations for a BET Award for Best New Artist and three Soul Train nominations. She also made appearances in the Cole Porter biopic “De-Lovely” (2004) and on NBC’s “American Dreams” (2003).

In 2005, Green released her second album, “Vivian,” which featured “Gotta Go Gotta Leave (Tired),” peaking at No. 1 on both the R&B chart and the dance charts. Her collaboration with producer Kwame Holland, beginning with the 2015 album “Vivid,” marked a significant period in her career. “Vivid” reached number ten on the R&B/hip-hop chart, and the single “Get Right Back to My Baby” reached No. 2 on Billboard’s UAC chart. Subsequent albums like “VGVI” (2017) and “Love Absolute” (2020), released through Kwame’s Make Noise Recordings in partnership with the SoNo Recording Group, continued to produce charting singles and demonstrate her sustained artistic output.
