Fresh off their 2023 album “Hard Reset” and a new chapter with Thriller Records, The Word Alive continue to prove why they remain one of American metalcore’s most resilient acts. Formed in Phoenix in 2008, the band spent their early years on Fearless Records, where their second EP “Empire” arrived in July 2009 and climbed to No. 15 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart, earning widespread acclaim and introducing frontman Tyler Smith, who famously learned to scream within days of joining.
Their momentum carried into 2010 with the debut studio album “Deceiver”, released on August 31 through Fearless Records. Produced by Andrew Wade, the record landed at No. 97 on the Billboard 200 and No. 15 on the Independent Albums chart, with a deluxe edition following in June 2011 featuring remixes, unreleased songs, and videos for “2012” and “The Wretched”. Across the decade that followed, the group built a catalogue spanning “Life Cycles” (2012), “Real” (2014), “Dark Matter” (2016), “Violent Noise” (2018), and “Monomania” (2020).
Today the lineup features vocalist Tyler Smith alongside Jose DelRio, Logan Abernethy, and drummer Devin Attard. Blending metalcore, post-hardcore, electronicore, and alternative metal, the band has shaped a sound that stretches between heavy riffs and melodic textures. In 2022 they signed with Thriller Records, marking a bold new era capped by “Hard Reset” in 2023 and cementing their place as enduring road-tested performers.
