His focus shifted to music, which he began producing in his parents’ basement before establishing a professional recording studio in Los Angeles. Ward built a significant following through his YouTube channel, accumulating over 2 million subscribers and 5 billion views by posting a mix of original songs and covers. This digital presence laid the groundwork for his global recognition and ability to connect directly with audiences.
Ward’s musical career saw him embark on five worldwide headlining tours, sharing stages with a diverse range of artists including Switchfoot, The Beach Boys, Aloe Blacc, The Jonas Brothers, and The Fray. He achieved significant chart success, ranking on Billboard’s Top 100 Uncharted List and Social 50 Chart. Key career milestones include a duet with The Band Perry in 2011 to celebrate the Academy of Country Music Awards and a performance with Christina Grimmie on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. His debut album, “Honestly,” featuring artists like Alex G. and Lindsey Stirling, was released in October 2013, showcasing his songwriting and production capabilities.
Throughout his career, Ward has been noted for his collaborative spirit, working with artists such as Jason Derulo on an acoustic version of “The Other Side” in 2013. That same year, Warner Music Group engaged Ward and other YouTube stars to promote a new single by Hunter Hayes and Jason Mraz, highlighting his influence in digital music promotion. In December 2015, he was featured as Elvis Duran’s Artist of the Month and performed his single “Yellow Boxes” on NBC’s Today show. Following Christina Grimmie’s passing, Ward released “A song for Christina Grimmie” in 2016 as a tribute.
