Wild Nothing

Wild Nothing is the indie rock project of American multi-instrumentalist Jack Tatum, formed in 2009 in Blacksburg, Virginia. Tatum writes, records, and performs the project’s music in the studio. For live performances, Wild Nothing operates as a full band, featuring long-standing members such as bass guitarist Jeff Haley, alongside guitarist Christoph Hochheim, drummer Victor Donahue, and keyboardist Lou Rebecca. Tatum first gained attention in indie music circles in 2009 with his demos, which included a cover of Kate Bush’s “Cloudbusting.” This success led to a signing with the Captured Tracks record label. The project’s debut full-length album, “Gemini,” was released in 2010. Pitchfork ranked “Gemini” as the 49th best album of 2010, and Amazon music editors placed it at 36th.

Wild Nothing’s second album, “Nocturne,” released in August 2012 via Captured Tracks, achieved critical and commercial recognition. It debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard New Artist and Alternative New Artist charts, received “Best New Music” from Pitchfork, and secured top positions on year-end lists from Under the Radar and iTunes Alternative. The project continued its output with the “Empty Estate” EP in May 2013. In 2014, Tatum announced he was working on a third studio album, later revealing in 2015 that he was recording in Stockholm for the project. The third studio album, “Life of Pause,” was released in February 2016 on Captured Tracks, accompanied by the double-sided single “To Know You”/”TV Queen.”

In 2018, Wild Nothing released their fourth studio album, “Indigo,” with the lead single “Letting Go” preceding its August release. Following this, the single “Blue Wings” was released in January 2019, and the “Laughing Gas” EP in February 2020. The project’s fifth studio album, “Hold,” was announced in August 2023 and released on October 27, 2023. Singles from “Hold” included “Headlights On,” featuring guest vocals from Hatchie, “Suburban Solutions,” and “Dial Tone.” Beyond his own project, Tatum has contributed production and writing credits to other artists, including Japanese Breakfast’s “Be Sweet” and Molly Burch’s “Emotion.”
