Willi Carlisle officially launched his musical career in 2016, following his pursuit of an MFA in poetry from the University of Arkansas. This academic path was specifically undertaken to refine his folk music writing, where he recognized a gap between contemporary poetry and general audience accessibility, ultimately motivating his distinct approach to connecting with a broader demographic through song. His debut EP/single, ‘Too Nice to Mean Much,’ arrived in 2016, quickly followed by his acclaimed debut album, ‘To Tell You the Truth,’ in 2018. Carlisle showcases multi-instrumental prowess across guitar, banjo, fiddle, accordion, concertina, and harmonica, establishing a unique foundation for his authentic storytelling.

Looking ahead, Carlisle has been recognized for his innovative contributions to the genre as the 2025 recipient of the FreshGrass Composition Commission.
