ZZ Top, the iconic American rock band, has sold an estimated 50 million records globally, earned three MTV Video Music Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Established in 1969, the band’s core lineup for over 51 years featured vocalist-guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard, and bassist-vocalist Dusty Hill, known for their distinct blues-rock sound and signature visual identity. After signing with London Records, ZZ Top released their debut, ‘ZZ Top’s First Album,’ in 1971. Their subsequent albums, ‘Tres Hombres’ (1973) and ‘Fandango!’ (1975), garnered widespread radio play, with ‘Tres Hombres’ reaching number eight on the Billboard 200 and the single ‘Tush’ from ‘Fandango!’ peaking at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In recent years, ZZ Top released the ‘Eliminator Collector’s Edition’ CD/DVD in 2008 and appeared on VH1’s ‘Storytellers’ in 2009. Their album ‘La Futura’ followed in 2012. In 2018, the band earned a Guinness World Record for the longest-running active group with no lineup changes, a record held until Dusty Hill’s passing in 2021. Following this, Elwood Francis seamlessly took over on bass, ensuring the band’s continuation.
Most recently, ZZ Top released ‘Raw’ in 2022, the soundtrack for the acclaimed documentary ‘That Little Ol’ Band from Texas,’ showcasing their enduring musical legacy.
