Abigail Strate

Abigail Strate secured Canada’s first-ever Olympic medal in ski jumping as a crucial member of the mixed team that won bronze at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. This historic achievement crowned a career of consistent progression that began with her participation in the Continental Cup circuit in 2016, where she earned a ninth-place finish in Lillehammer. Demonstrating her developing prowess, Strate subsequently competed in three FIS Junior World Championships across 2017, 2018, and 2020. Her standout individual performance at these championships was a 15th-place finish in the normal hill event in 2018, which also distinguished her as the top non-European athlete in the field.

Strate made her debut on the sport’s elite World Cup circuit during the 2016-17 season. Gaining valuable international experience, she participated in the Olympic test event for PyeongChang 2018 in 2017, achieving a 26th-place result. Her trajectory continued on the Grand Prix circuit, where she debuted in Courcheval, France, in August 2017 with a 15th-place finish. Notably, Strate competed at her first senior FIS World Championships in 2021, where she was the top Canadian athlete in both the women’s individual normal hill, finishing 27th, and the large hill events, where she placed 28th.
