Abigail Strate

Abigail Strate was born on February 22, 2001, in Calgary, Alberta. She began ski jumping at the age of six and participated in her first international competition by age ten in Park City, Utah. Her career progressed through various competitions, including the Continental Cup circuit in 2016, where she achieved a ninth-place finish in Lillehammer. She later competed in three FIS Junior World Championships in 2017, 2018, and 2020. Her best individual result at the Junior World Championships was a 15th-place finish in the normal hill event in 2018, ranking as the top non-European athlete.

Strate made her World Cup debut during the 2016-17 season. She participated in the Olympic test event for PyeongChang 2018, where she placed 26th. She steadily improved her World Cup results, achieving a 13th-place finish in November 2021 in Nizhny Tagil, Russia, which was her career-best individual result at that time. During the 2021-22 season, she secured four top-30 finishes. Her Grand Prix circuit performances also included a 13th-place finish in Frenstad, Czech Republic, in August 2021, and a 15th-place finish during her debut Grand Prix event in Courcheval, France, in August 2017.

A significant achievement in Strate’s career occurred at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. She was part of the Canadian mixed team, alongside Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, Alexandria Loutitt, and Matthew Soukup, that won a bronze medal in the inaugural Olympic mixed team ski jumping event. This marked Canada’s first-ever Olympic medal in the sport of ski jumping. Additionally, she competed at her first senior FIS World Championships in 2021, where she was the top Canadian in both the women’s individual normal hill and large hill events, and contributed to the Canadian mixed team’s 10th-place finish.
